How often should you clean your AC in the UAE?
How often to clean AC filters, coils and ducts in UAE heat, dust and humidity. Coastal vs inland.
Tip: send a photo of the indoor and outdoor unit on WhatsApp before we quote extras.
Short answer
Wash or vacuum split filters every 2–4 weeks if the unit runs daily. Book a proper indoor coil and drain clean at least twice a year. Ducted apartments and villas need a duct look every 1–2 years, sooner after renovation or a bad leak. Coastal homes add humidity; inland homes add dust. Both clog machines, just differently.
Filters are not a ‘clean’
A filter is a sacrificial mesh. In Dubai Marina it loads with lint and damp dust. In Khalifa City it loads with dry grit. If you never touch it, the coil behind it becomes the filter, and that is when ice, smells and DEWA/ADDC spikes start. You can do filters yourself. You cannot properly wash a blower wheel with a tissue.
Twice a year is the floor, not a slogan
Pre-summer (March–May) and post-summer (September–October) match how the plant is actually used. A third visit after a shamal is normal for villas with roof packages. See pre-summer service and after-sandstorm cleaning.
Ducts
Ducts do not need a perfume every six months. They do need a mechanical clean when furniture films over in a day, after fit-out dust, or when a camera shows it. Duct cleaning prices sit by property size.
If you run AC 24/7
Most UAE bedrooms do. That is correct for mould on walls, but it keeps the coil wet. Wet coils need pan hygiene, not a colder set-point. 23–25°C with a clean coil beats 18°C on a filthy one.
Warning: do not poke live terminals or recover refrigerant yourself. Isolation first, then WhatsApp.

Can I wait until it smells?
Smell means you already waited. Filters should be boring and regular.
Window units?
They pack even faster. Plan a pull-out clean before summer.
